We are going to be using a chunk of time on Fridays for book recommendations. Today we talked about the different ways we could recommend the book. Then the students made the expectations for these options. It was fun to watch them interact and hold each other to high standards. A special thank you for all the donations of cheese-its. We used them to find the area and perimeter of shapes (and enjoyed them for snack too)! Below are a few pictures of us in action. Also, there are 2 movies below that serve as a great review for area and perimeter. Please note: the students do NOT need to know how to find the area of a triangle (however it is included on the area video). Third graders will be learning about the importance of studying fossils. Fossils provide clues about plants and animals that lived long ago and gives us information as to how our planet has changed. Paleontologists also use fossils to learn about the animal's diet, size, how it moved, and if they animal traveled in groups or alone. Your child's Fossils Test is Wednesday, April 29.
A special thank you to the 17 parent volunteers who came with us on the field trip today! What a special day! Here are some of the student comments:
-I loved the robot -It was so cool to see each step -I liked learning about the robbery -I liked talking to the workers, they were so nice! -I liked the ring trees -It was cool to learn about TerryBerry's history -I loved designing the rings! The letter "c" and "g" can be tricky because they can make two different sounds. "C" can make the /k/ sound as in cake and it can make the /s/ sound as in city. "G" can make the /j/ sound as in gym or the /g/ as in grape.
Practice at home: Try practicing your words at home this week by writing each one in your very best handwriting. This past Wednesday our students had the opportunity to learn from Ms Dorie. Ms Dorie was born blind and has learned to use different forms of technology and skills to live a very independent life. This related to our studies about Helen Keller during our biography unit. Ms. Dorie shocked the students with all that she does on her own each day. She also brought many of her tools for the students to try out. This past week in math students have been learning all about shapes! We have learned the names of polygons and how to categorize quadrilaterals. Here is a video that may be helpful for this Wednesday's homework and a great review for your child. Students will be putting on their paleontologists hats to learn all about fossils! Students will be learning that fossils are the preserved remains of plants or animals that lived long ago. Fossils can be found in the form of an imprint, cast, mold, or body fossil.
This week our spelling words will all have the consonants that come together to make a new sound. These include th, sh, wh, ch, and gh.
Practice at home: Try practicing your words at home this week by recording yourself saying each word and its spelling. Then listen to your recording. |
