We had fun today learning our spelling words today through a game of long /o/ Go Fish.
We learned how to multiply and divide by 9s today! There are so many patterns that we noticed! For example, we learned that if you add the 2 numbers up in the product the sum will be 9! example: 3x9=27 .... 2+7=9; 4x9=36.....3+6=9 We also learned that we can multiply the number by 10 and then subtract the factor (that isn't 9). example: 8x9=72..... 8x10=80-8=72 or 3x9=27, 3x10=30-3=27 We also learned this finger trick to learning our 9s The student's did an amazing job on their MI Kid Presentations! Please enjoy and feel free to comment!
We are wrapping up our unit on Michigan geography. Our test will be on Wednesday, October 1. The students will be bringing home a review guide and map to study on Friday. They also have a packet they have been working on in class that they will bring home on Tuesday.
This week your child picked one small moment that they wanted to stick with until our celebration. We planned for this piece by creating a timeline. Next, we drafted our stories while making sure to include vivid verbs and internal thoughts and feelings. Finally, we drafted new beginnings and endings to our stories. We look forward to our celebration next week!
Today I brought in bubble gum for the students to enjoy during our writing. WHY? Because they earned a bingo row! The students have been working hard as a class to ear parts of a bingo board by doing things like: having a quick and quiet transition, everyone stacking their chair, clean floor at the end of the day, etc. Way to go 3rd graders!
Attached is a copy of South's Student Handbook.
We had a fun time practicing our spelling words today with a "Spelling Race" activity. It's a fun and quick way to practice ANY spelling words. Some students wanted to use this activity to practice at home. I attached the activity sheet. Activity created by Christina Bainbridge (http://bainbridgeclass.blogspot.com/2013/11/spelling-dice-race-freebie.html) We worked today on our 2 multiplication and division facts! I showed the students this fun video to help them practice! |
