If you could have walked by our room the last few days during science, you would have heard a lot of different SOUNDS. We learned how to use different vibrations while blowing on our straw horns and striking our drums!
Then we learned about loud and soft sounds. We practiced using energy to make loud and soft claps. Elementary Ski and Snowboarding Club: New for 2015-16. The Hudsonville Ski and Board Club would like to invite students, siblings and parents of HPS Elementary Schools (all ages) to purchase discount ski club cards to Bittersweet Ski Resort in Otsego. These cards allow discounted rates on lift tickets and rentals. Monday is the official HPS club day, and we invite you to bring the family to Bittersweet for some fun with other HPS families. Discount prices are also good everyday of the week after 3:30pm. Pick up information in the South School office or print the attachments. Registration due in South School office on December 9. Come join Mr. Nederveld on the slopes of Bittersweet this winter!
This week we will be studying different strategies to add 3-digit numbers. It's important to remember that strategies are just different ways to do the same thing. Students will gravitate towards a strategy that works best for them, and that is the one they should stick with. However, in class we will be practicing trying out different strategies.

Houseboat, cupcake, sunshine, and bookworm are all examples of compound words. If we can spell the smaller words correctly we can also spell the larger word correctly! Practice at home: Try practicing your words at home this week by getting in some exercise! Do a jumping jack or push up for each letter of your spelling words. This week we have been learning a lot about sound! We've learned that sound is a type of energy that is created by vibrations. It travels through matter and can be created by blowing, plucking, strumming, or striking. This week we will learn about volume and pitch!
