Practice at home: Try practicing your words at home this week by recording yourself saying each word and its spelling. Then listen to your recording.
This week the student will meet the “h” brothers. The “h brothers” team up with other letters to make new sounds including ch, wh, sh, and th. The students will learn how to spell these sounds and notice them in their reading.

This week after reading Saturdays and Teacakes the students will be examining proper nouns. Proper nouns are the specific names of people, places, and things. Proper nouns are always capitalized. Thanks to everyone who ordered books from our last book order. We received all of these books for free!
We used our desks as dry erase boards today as we multiplied and divided by 2! The kids thought it was very cool and had no idea how much they were learning in the process! We are looking forward to our upcoming plant unit! We have some wonderful things planned, but we need your help. By clicking on the link below you can find the items we are in need of and sign up to bring it in!
Thanks in advance for signing up! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f4eabac22a1f94-plant We have learned about 5 of the Core Democratic Values that unite all Americans.
We learned that patriotism is showing respect to our country. We can do this by saying the pledge respectfully, thanking a soldier, and voting. We learned that it is always important to tell the truth and that truth equals trust. We learned that we can help out our community by showing common good. Equality means that we need to show respect to those that are different than us. Finally, we learned that we have the freedom to pursue our hopes and dreams! We will continue to review these values throughout the year during our Michigan Studies units. In third grade, we all try really hard to follow our classroom promises daily. There are days that we need reminders and sometimes there are days where we need to take a break, so we can come back ready to learn. However, other days, we have a hard time following our promises throughout the day. Many times this causes problems not only for the student breaking the promises, but those trying to learn as well. On these days, your child will bring home a "Stop and Think About It" note. On the note your child will write about the promise they most recently broke. Please review this note with your child, then sign and return in the next day. If you ever have questions about the situation, please don't hesitate to ask.
On Tuesday we learned about division by reading the book "The Doorbell Rang." We had fun trying to figure out how many cookies each child would get. Of course we finished by enjoying cookie snack! I just got this from the Gary Byker Library. Looks like something that might be fun for the students to participate in! |
